Unfortunately, Traktor DJ doesn't let you set loop markers, only standard hot cues. I use Mixed In Key for BPM/key detection. I wouldn't imagine that riding virtual pitch faders on the iPad screen would be much fun, anyway. The addition of hardware also means you can beatmatch manually, without being forced to use sync. But with my Kontrol S4 connected to my iPad, I love me some Traktor DJ. Regardless of app, I'm not a big fan of DJing with just the touchscreen. Traktor's freeze/loop slicer is far superior as well, imo. I don't think I've ever managed to get a track properly gridded in Djay, whereas I can set up a grid for most tracks in a few seconds using Traktor DJ. It's actually one of the main reasons I never touch that app, other than occasionally messing around with the Sugar Bytes FX. Personally, I've found Traktor's gridding system significantly better than the one in Djay 2. Anyhow, I just wanted to comment on how amazed I am at people's preference for Djay 2's beatgridding system compared to Traktor DJ's. If you have any specific questions though, I can try to help out.

It's a pretty straightforward app, definitely much more so than the beastly Traktor Pro 2.

Re: A manual - the list of tips available in the side menu does a good job of explaining most/all the features and how to use them. I suppose it could be an issue if you're just opposed to iTunes in general, or you found a track online that you really want to play but you're nowhere near your computer, but I've got no issues with it. I have all my tracks categorized and tagged with BPM/key and find it easier to organize playlists and "record crates" within iTunes. Personally, the lack of ability to import tunes directly into the app without iTunes has never been an issue for me.

Currently, Traktor DJ just uses Dropbox as a means of storing that data in case you have to reinstall the program/you're using a different device/switching between the iPad and iPhone versions/whatever. Unfortunately, iOS 7 somehow broke that feature and I don't know that it'll ever come back. Re: Dropbox functionality - Initially it was utilized as a means of saving track metadata (e.g., beat grids, cue points, etc.) then being able to transfer that info over to Traktor Pro 2 and vice versa, thus allowing you to prep your tracks on the go for later use with Pro or having tracks that were prepped in Pro already set to use on Traktor DJ. One question is there an actual manual anywhere? Yeah the videos i watched sold me on it as a performance tool but i wanted to get into a bit of DJing so i'm entering on the ground floor. With AB i guess there's potential to do Samplr style mashups, the IAP add on looks really good. Well i bought it so that if i play my own tracks out i can have a nice simple setup. It's a stupid limitation, why not just allow DB import direct from Traktor? I use CDs and have loads of tracks ripped on a partition on my desktops HD but use a laptop for itunes so would save a lot of hassle to do any conversion and upload tracks there, oh well i'll just have to be well organised! Really? I read that Traktor DJ doesn't import metadata so i thought DB import was for tracks but clearly some confusion on my end. Some pretty awful syncing quantization too, but could work around that if I could just import any music. Great features handcuffed to an outdated (and in my case just not used at all) method of getting music into the app. Then as I dug deeper it was all disappointment. I was up and running with it doing some down right fun shit on the first day. It's a real shame too, because I found the ui to be even better than I thought it would be. I can't find anything on their website or in the docs I've seen that lead me to believe you can get music into the app from any source but your iTunes music library. The dropbox sync thing is apparently for syncing meta data with Traktor pro.
